NBAWF FCT STATE LEAD HADIZA AFEGBUA MAKES HISTORIC VISIT TO GWAGWALADA BRANCH INAUGURAL MEETING, ANNOUNCES AGC SPONSORSHIP FOR YOUNG FEMALE LAWYERS

In a landmark moment for the Nigerian Bar Association Women Forum (NBAWF) FCT, Abuja-Chapter, State Lead Hadiza Afegbua led a distinguished delegation to the inaugural meeting of the NBAWF Gwagwalada Branch, marking a significant first in the Forum’s history.


This visit, the first of its kind by any State Lead to the branch, underscores the Forum’s commitment to expanding its presence and fostering inclusivity among female legal practitioners across the FCT.


The delegation accompanying the State Lead included esteemed legal professionals such as ACE Hussaina Gambo of the Legal Department, EFCC, Oge Duruaku, Principal Partner at Oge Duruaku & Co, Khafilat Yusuf, a Principal Legal Officer at the Federal Ministry of Justice, Elizabeth Fakele, Saudat Yahaya Shuaibu and other dynamic young lawyers from the Young Lawyers Forum (YLF) Garki, among others.


During the meeting, the NBA Gwagwalada Branch Exco led by the Chairman Clever Oliver Owor introduced its newly inaugurated NBAWF officers, it was indeed a historic moment, the first ever in the branch.


The presence of the FCT Chapter at this momentous occasion further solidified the importance of building a strong network of female legal professionals across all branches.


In a ground breaking announcement, the NBAWF FCT Chapter declared its AGC sponsorship of five young lawyers from each NBAWF branch within the FCT to attend the upcoming NBAWF Annual General Conference, scheduled for April 29–30th ,2025. This initiative aims to empower and support young female lawyers in accessing opportunities for professional growth, networking, and mentorship.


To commemorate the occasion, the FCT Chapter presented the Gwagwalada Branch with a specially designed cake, symbolizing unity and growth within the Forum. Additionally, each member in attendance received an NBAWF memorabilia pin-up as a token of appreciation, reinforcing the shared vision of empowering women in the legal profession.


Hadiza Afegbua, in her remarks, emphasized the significance of the visit, stating that, This is not just a visit; it is a reaffirmation of our commitment to ensuring that every female lawyer in the FCT, regardless of location, has access to the resources, mentorship, and opportunities needed to thrive in the legal profession. The inauguration of the NBAWF Gwagwalada Branch is a testament to the Forum’s growth and we are here to ensure that this momentum continues.”


Christy Oboh A. the Facilitator, NBAWF Gwagwalada Branch expressed gratitude for the FCT leadership’s support, noting that, this engagement further strengthens the resolve of female lawyers in Gwagwalada to actively participate in the Forum’s programs and advocacy efforts.


As the NBAWF FCT Chapter continues to break new ground, this visit serves as a powerful reminder of the Forum’s unwavering dedication to fostering unity, professional development, and advocacy for women in the legal profession across the Federal Capital Territory.
