As the NBA Women Forum continues its mission to spotlight legal excellence, promote gender inclusivity, and empower women in law to achieve personal and professional success, it is our distinct honour to introduce a gentleman of the Bar who embodies the values of excellence, service, and support for gender equity — Lugard Tare-Otu.

Mr. Tare-Otu is the Chairman and Managing Partner of Tare-Otu Legal (Barristers & Solicitors), a prominent law firm with operational hubs in Yenagoa, Port Harcourt, and Lagos. With a legal career steeped in brilliance, strategy, and innovation, he brings decades of experience in General Dispute Resolution, Litigation Strategy and Management, Corporate & Commercial Law, and Oil Spill and Hydrocarbon Environmental Law.

His forte also spans the fields of Energy & Natural Resources, Commercial Litigation, and Projects & Infrastructure—making him one of the most versatile legal practitioners of his generation.

In his public service trajectory, Mr. Tare-Otu currently serves as the Senior Special Assistant to the Honourable Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Bayelsa State.

He also functions as the Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Yenagoa Branch, where his leadership continues to shape ethical legal practice and youth mentorship across the region.

Previously, from 2014 to 2016, he served as Special Assistant to the Honourable Commissioner of Trade, Industry & Investment, Bayelsa State.

In that role, he was part of the team that directed and implemented state-level trade, industry, and investment policies aimed at attracting growth and development to the State.

Beyond the courtroom and conference halls, Mr. Tare-Otu is an avid golfer, a dog breeder, and a passionate football fan, with a personality as vibrant as it is thoughtful.

Notably, he is also widely regarded as a gender-friendly advocate of the Bar, known for supporting female inclusion in legal practice and actively championing platforms that amplify women’s voices and contributions within and beyond the legal space.
